2013 Scotties Draw 15 NL vs QC Last Rock

Scotties Tournament of Hearts 2013 - Team NL news

This year marked the 1st time that Hardline Curling made it to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, thanks to Team Newfoundland/Labrador and their provincial win.  The team of skip Stacie Devereaux, 3rd Erin Porter, 2nd Lauren Wasylkiw, lead Heather Martin, 5th Julie Devereaux and coach Craig Withycombe made their way to Kingston with high hopes for the week.
The week started off Saturday Feb 16 against Ontario and ended on Friday Feb 20 against Saskatchewan.  The team played a total of 11 games, and finished with a 2-9 record.  Unfortunately, the record does not show how well they played, and if not for a few inches here and there, they could have easily finished with a 6-5 record.

We met with the team and had a great time with them!  They are so awesome, and we managed to spend time with their friends and family in the stands.  And every time a NL player made a good shot, Stacie and Julie's grandfather would yell out, "NICE SHOT NEWFOUNDLAND!" and others would follow up with "NICE SHOT!".  It was the Newfoundland trademark!

The highlight of the week for Team Newfoundland/Labrador was an extra end thriller against Team Quebec in Draw 15 on Friday morning.  With the game time tied, and QC having a rock in the 4-foot guarded, NL had only a draw to the button to win the game.  You can see for yourself by watching the video below!

It was a great week, and we're so proud of Team NL!  We're looking forward to seeing you again next year in Montreal for Scotties 2014.

Team Stacie Devereaux Wins NL Scotties - Kingston Bound

Congratulations to Team Stacie Devereaux, Erin Porter, Lauren Wasylkiw, Heather Martin & coach Craig Withycombe - Newfoundland&Labrador Scotties provincial champs!   They will represent their province at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kingston ON from Feb 16-24, 2013.

The team started off the provincials with two come from behind wins - taking two in the 10th end, and stealing the extra end - to go 2-0.  They then beat Team Heather Strong - defending champs to go 3-0, and the finished off the round robin with another victory to finish at 4-0.

By going undefeated and reaching the finals undefeated, they had to be beaten twice by eventual finalist Heather Strong.

In the 1st final game, Team Strong came out with the 10-5 victory.

In the 2nd final game, a see-saw battle emerged, and Team Strong took 3 in the 8th end to go up 6-5.  But Team Devereaux remained calm and came right back with a 3-spot of their own in the 9th end to go up 8-6. In the 10th end, Strong managed a single point and the final score was 8-7 Stacie Devereaux.

With their never give up attitude and hard work, they have achieved their objective and are off to nationals!

Congratulations ladies!  We are proud to be one of the team's supporters!

This is the 3rd national championship this year that Hardline Curling and the Ice Pad will be taking part in - Mixed Nationals with Team Quebec (Fournier), Junior Nationals with Team Quebec (Asselin), and now Scotties Tournament of Hearts with Team Nfld/Lab (Devereaux).

TEAM FELIX ASSELIN WINS QC JUNIOR PROVS 2013

Congratulations to Team Felix Asselin, Marc-Alexandre Dion, Lewis South, and Sami Guimond-Jaber with coach Benoit Forget on capturing the Quebec Junior Provincial title.  They went a perfect 5-0 to win the title, for the 2nd year in a row!  They will go to the M&M Junior Nationals in Fort McMurray AB and play against the top junior teams in the country from February 2nd to the 10th.
The team plays with Hardline Curling equipment, including the new IcePad.  Hardline Curling is proud to be associated with a team of talented young curlers such as these, and their hard work during the season has paid dividends once again with a provincial title.  Can a national title be next?  We are certainly rooting for them!
